As sweet and as effortless family sessions appear to be in a curated feed on Instagram or even a blog post, we all know that is far from the truth.  Family sessions are a lot of work for both the family and photographer!  Having followed Savan of Savan Photography for quite some time, I reached out to her about a mentorship in photographing family portraits on film and boy, she did NOT disappoint.

Savan is the queen of emotion filled photography in all aspects of her work.  The way she can tell a families story is enough to bring tears to your eyes!  She is driven and passionate about her clients.  I was so honored to have had the opportunity to learn from such a role model in this industry.

We both had the pleasure of photographing Moriah’s sweeter than sweet family here in the Joshua Tree desert!  I walked away from our time together with so much knowledge and a newfound love for creating art with my portraits.  More than that, I walked away with a friend and lifelong mentor.  For that, I am forever greatful!

BEHIND THE LENS

ABOUT alexis

Rooted in the Lowcountry, where the sea breeze feels like home. You’ll find me on the back porch, soaking in the coastal sounds, in my favorite jeans and tee. A Jersey girl at heart, fueled by Waffle House and country music—especially Kane Brown on repeat.

Born and raised in a small town in New Jersey, I truly believe in the saying, ‘You can take the girl out of Jersey, but you can’t take the Jersey out of the girl.’ At 18, I left the Garden State to join the Marine Corps, and since then, I’ve called a few different places home. Now, I’m a proud mom to three amazing kids and two furry companions who would call me ‘mom’ if they could.

I live for crisp fall days, can never say no to a good bowl of pasta, and—despite my best efforts—I can’t go a week without a refreshing canned Coke. My love for interior design runs deep (even if I wish I were better at it), and in my spare time, I’m always finding new ways to make my little golf cottage feel like home
